For TSE’s 2014 Fall collection, Creative Director Tina Lutz drew inspiration from a series of photographs of birds called "Aves" from the book ‘Himmel ohne Wolken’ by photographer Edgar Leciejewski. Introduced to Tina by her sister, the book’s publisher, the series explores the effects of natural elements - such as high pressure systems - on these birds. The pictures, captured of the birds after death, seeks to eternalize their raw beauty.
Lutz drew inspiration from patterns and colors reflected in the birds' feathers, echoing them in the stitches and seams of knit and woven pieces. Long dresses and fitted sweaters incorporate technical designs and architectural patterns reminiscent of the pressure lines depicted in the book. The rich gem tones used throughout the collection, including emerald green, aubergine and deep purple, play beautifully in luxurious textiles such as silk crepe layered over finely knit cashmere. Streamlined sweaters are finished in chunky knit trim, creating pieces that are both substantial and wearable. Outerwear pieces and luxurious separates are presented in the brand's signature double-faced cashmere, as well as buttery leathers and plush shearlings.
Lutz, continuing her commitment to partnering with artisans around the world, collaborated with four of her apparel design students from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), where she is an ad-junct professor. The student designed pieces include a feather inspired fabric print combining the collection’s palette; a cardigan that is able to be transformed into a cape with the option to button the sleeves in the back; a custom knit stitch design seen on a cardigan drawing on the sharp lines and technicality of the collection; and an architectural vest made from upcycled yarn, finger-knit by the student, as opposed to needles or a knitting machine.
As always, TSE’s use of clean, architectural shapes and a jewel toned colored palette lends a high level of femininity to the collection, while the use of incredibly soft and cozy textiles creates a unique wearability.
TSE’s commitment to sustainable, environment-friendly fabrics continues this season with the presence of an organic cashmere capsule. TSE is proud to be one of the few brands in the world offering a selection of cashmere that is created through a certified organic process, without the use of harsh chemical treatments.
