Our Resort 2015 is presented on Style.com

“Since becoming TSE's creative director last year, Tina Lutz has brought a certain edge to the cashmere brand's refined basics. Her collections touch on unique inspirations, which she interprets with enthusiasm. This season found the designer fixated on BBC's The Blue Planet documentary series, which she regularly watches with her son. Lutz was particularly interested in bioluminescent creatures that live in the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean. "What they find down there is so unbelievable. It makes me realize how little we actually know about our world," she said at a Resort preview.

Lutz dove into her references in a literal way. Mirroring stringy jellyfish tentacles, fringe details were incorporated into several looks, for example, and clean T-shirts and Bermuda shorts featuring a delicate lace that was reminiscent of coral were also shown. Among the other plays on the underwater theme was a series of reef-printed pieces—including a silk tunic dress with a bubble-like drape in back. A portion of sales from each of those printed styles will be donated to The Ocean Cleanup foundation, which develops new technologies to eliminate large-scale plastic pollution.

On another socially conscious note, Lutz remains committed to working with female artisan collectives each season, and collaborated with the Swaziland-based Rosecraft group this time around on an open-weave scarf knitted from pure mohair. But aside from all those aquatic allusions and charitable goods, this collection was ultimately about beautiful, simple clothes. Highlights included lightweight toppers cut from pearl pink, double-face cashmere, ultrasoft chenille fisherman sweaters, slim tailored separates, and neoprene bonded velvet jackets.”

    WWD - 02/24/14

Avian inspiration and an organic cashmere collection of environmentally friendly staples are what’s to come for TSE Fall ’14. WWD - WWD - Women's Wear Daily called Creative Director Tina Lutz’s collection “her best yet.”

    FALL 2014

For TSE’s 2014 Fall collection, Creative Director Tina Lutz drew inspiration from a series of photographs of birds called "Aves" from the book ‘Himmel ohne Wolken’ by photographer Edgar Leciejewski.  Introduced to Tina by her sister, the book’s publisher, the series explores the effects of natural elements - such as high pressure systems - on these birds. The pictures, captured of the birds after death, seeks to eternalize their raw beauty.

Lutz drew inspiration from patterns and colors reflected in the birds' feathers, echoing them in the stitches and seams of knit and woven pieces. Long dresses and fitted sweaters incorporate technical designs and architectural patterns reminiscent of the pressure lines depicted in the book. The rich gem tones used throughout the collection, including emerald green, aubergine and deep purple, play beautifully in luxurious textiles such as silk crepe layered over finely knit cashmere. Streamlined sweaters are finished in chunky knit trim, creating pieces that are both substantial and wearable. Outerwear pieces and luxurious separates are presented in the brand's signature double-faced cashmere, as well as buttery leathers and plush shearlings.

Lutz, continuing her commitment to partnering with artisans around the world, collaborated with four of her apparel design students from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), where she is an ad-junct professor.  The student designed pieces include a feather inspired fabric print combining the collection’s palette; a cardigan that is able to be transformed into a cape with the option to button the sleeves in the back; a custom knit stitch design seen on a cardigan drawing on the sharp lines and technicality of the collection; and an architectural vest made from upcycled yarn, finger-knit by the student, as opposed to needles or a knitting machine.

As always, TSE’s use of clean, architectural shapes and a jewel toned colored palette lends a high level of femininity to the collection, while the use of incredibly soft and cozy textiles creates a unique wearability.

TSE’s commitment to sustainable, environment-friendly fabrics continues this season with the presence of an organic cashmere capsule. TSE is proud to be one of the few brands in the world offering a selection of cashmere that is created through a certified organic process, without the use of harsh chemical treatments.

    Pre-Fall 2014

For TSE’s 2014 Pre-Fall collection, Creative Director Tina Lutz drew inspiration from patterns in nature and botany. Photographer Nick Knight’s book, Flora, a volume of flowers and plants chosen from the Natural History Museum, London, served as reference.

The collection, comprised of TSE’s signature textured knits in cashmere, silk and cotton, features geometric prints influenced by dried flowers and scattered leaves as captured through Knight’s lens. Lutz created a subtle, muted palette designed to transition seamlessly from the summer months into fall. Warm neutrals pair beautifully with soft hues of olive green, dusty rose and heather grey.

Lutz plays with informal silhouettes such as sweatshirt style-blouses, dressing them up in rich materials like silk crepe framed with feather and chunky weight cashmere. Oversized blazers, and playful shorts are given a luxurious treatment in double-faced cashmere. Culottes and superwide pants are finished in satin back crepe lending comfort to sophistication, while polo and dress shapes follow suit with the use of superfine wool.

The combination of boucle cashmere yarns in different weights, from light weight to chunky creatively invites versatility and style into a modern look with a bit of edge.

As always, TSE’s use of clean, architectural shapes and a monochromatic palette lends a high level of sophistication to the collection, while the use of incredibly soft and touchable textiles creates a unique wearability.

This season, Lutz collaborated with creative design duo, Grei. on a series of hand-screened bandanas made in Brooklyn, meant to be styled with the collection. Each bandana features an exclusive print influenced by the group’s mutual admiration for abstract artist Agnes Martin’s linear works.

    TSE & Tina Lutz

American luxury ready to wear brand, TSE today announces the appointment of industry veteran Tina Lutz as Creative Director. She will be responsible for overseeing all product design and development, Lutz, who has been consulting for the brand for the past year, debuts her first collection for TSE with fall 2013.

German-born Lutz held design positions with Calvin Klein and Barneys New York, among others, before co-founding her own label, Lutz & Patmos, a women’s ready to wear line that focused on luxury knitwear, in 2000. She served as the brand’s creative and branding director for ten years, during which she was instrumental in the house’s creative direction and design.

Her vision embodies the TSE aesthetic: timeless luxury with a modern edge.”

“TSE’s tradition of excellence in design and quality is a wonderful platform to build upon, and one that I’ll continue while ushering the brand into its next chapter,” said Lutz. “I look forward to helping the brand grow in all dimensions while bringing my own edited point of view to the collections.”

Lutz is based in New York City, where TSE’s headquarters and design studio are located.
